SLEEP LIKE A KITTEN |

By Janet Kalter

Hollandia, at 149 N. Third Street, is one of the new businesses in Old City. Stefan Sklaroff, the showroom manager, was looking for a long-term venture in an exciting neighborhood to display his exciting product, and he believes he has found just the right location.

Previously located in the Marketplace, at the other end of Center City, it was less likely that retail clients would visit his showroom because of Marketplace policy. He was eager to have the opportunity to have immediate contact with the end-user. He believes that his level of enthusiasm for the sleep systems that he offers is better conveyed by speaking directly with the person who will be using it.

I believe he's right. His enthusiasm is contagious.

Be prepared to take the opportunity to rest your weary bones on one or more of these wonderfully comfortable adjustable beds. The mattresses, made of Vita Talalay latex, are produced in Israel where, since 1981, technologies have been developed to perfect the science of sleep. As you might suspect, the most frequent problem with adjustable beds is the mechanism, but the motor used on the Hollandia bedsystem is made in Germany and is extremely reliable. The hardware "skeleton" of the bed is on display for your inspection.

Just about every piece of furniture in the space, excluding Stefan's desk, turns into a bed. That innocent little red ottoman? It's a bed.

Customization is a readily accepted challenge. Stefan tells me that he hasn't met a bed frame that they couldn't fit with a Hollandia bed; even very contemporary, low beds. Fabric covers can be customer's own material, though many fabrics are offered.

Hollandia does offer a variety of bed frames, even some television beds, if that's your style. The famed designer, Karim Rashid, has even tried his hand at designing bed frames for them.

Talking with other business owners in Old City made the prospect of opening his business here seem appealing. Stefan has found Old City to be very friendly and welcoming. Stop in to visit him and you will find that he's returning the favor.
