Engine 08 is housed along with Ladder 02 at 4th and Arch Streets in Old City and is the ONLY Engine Company in our historic neighborhood.
 
The mayor will be closing Engine 08 on January 5th 2009 as a cost cutting measure. The Mayor is telling the Citizens of this City and, in particular, Old City, that we will still have the same fire protection for our families and property. Unfortunately, this is simply not true.
 
Engine Companies carry water and put out fires. Ladder Companies carry ladders and tools used to assist engine Companies in their fire suppression efforts. Ladder companies alone cannot extinguish anything.
 
A fire doubles in size every 30 seconds. If the next closest Engine Company is required to get to Old City during a fire and their response time is 8 minutes instead of 4 minutes, the consequenses could be dire for both the Firefighters and for the civilians involved.
 
We urge that you contact city council members to demand that these dangerous cuts are not enacted. Ask them "How it is possible that the most Historic square mile in this Country will not have an Engine Company to protect it?"
